Budget 4AGE Swap
Introduction
If you haven't seen it before, this is my 1986 AE86 hatchback. I picked it up in a trade deal from a friend in August 2021, I got it with a running 4AC engine and a blown up GTS rear axle. The previous owner had hopes of doing a full GTS conversion but had other priorities, so I hoped to finish it. Ended up only having the car for 6 months before I pulled the engine out for a 4AGE.
Parts
I picked up a disassembled 7 rib bigport engine that was running and driving in my friend's AW11 before he went to a 4AGZE setup. It came with most of the AW11 parts such as the wiring harness, solenoids, fuel rail, etc.
Around the same time, another local AE86 owner windowed the block of the 4AGE in his car, and I was able to purchase two complete motors from him for a great deal (One was the windowed one, and another was going to be the replacement but turned out to have low compression)
Preparations
Wiring
The wiring was definitely the longest part of the swap. The way most people will do it is to buy a full set of GTS harnesses (or at least the engine and dashboard ones), but working on a budget I made it work with the AW11 engine harness and then all of the original SR5 chassis wiring.
